Description

A hospital that had been under construction even before I was born. This is for the benefit of the community, not just the wealthy, but the poor as well. No one is above the means to come to Mai-nasara Hospital, even those who lack financial strength; at Mai-nasara Hospital, we have a foundation to assist the underprivileged, and through it, we render all necessary help. Moreover, Mai-nasara Hospital is not like those hospitals everyone knows. I have confidence in my hospital, and I will say it anywhere without the fear of being wrong!!

Jannart nodded, as she was now satisfied with the man's words in her capacity as a journalist, especially realizing he spoke with full confidence, unlike some people whose speech is mostly evasive and deceitful. Sometimes they even lie just to protect themselves from the press.

Aside, Asiya stood casting murderous glares at Jannart, feeling a burning, painful sensation in her heart. She desperately wished she were the one who had gotten that opportunity, wishing she were the one on stage today with a man whose beauty, composure, and dignity completely swept her off her feet—a man she felt merely having the chance to speak with was a level of success in itself.

Just as Asiya felt a churn of bitterness in her heart, Dr. Lukman felt like jumping into the TV to choke Dr. Rayyern—something he knew he could never actually do in reality. He turned his gaze to Alhaji Idi Sale Dakata and said with bitter frustration: "Truly, this Dr. Rayyern is a bastard. Every which way, he tries to undermine me. His mouth never dies, and he has an answer ready for every single question in his head."

Alhaji Idi Sale Dakata gave a smile that was worse than crying, and with the frustration enveloping his heart, said: "Very soon, that mouth of his won't move anymore. That is a promise I have made to myself."

Dr. Lukman and Alhaji Abdu Tababa smiled with relief, knowing Alhaji Idi Sale Dakata's character very well, because they knew whatever he said he would do, he would certainly execute.

Over at Rayyern's house, Abba, Mamy, Ramadan, and Riyyam-nsra were seated in the lounge watching the program, giving it their undivided attention. Abba, in particular, was lost in deep thought. He stared at Rayyern and the young lady interviewing him without blinking, feeling something extraordinary in his heart.

Ramadan and the others fixed their eyes on their older brother, nodding in appreciation because of the answers their brother gave, which deeply touched their hearts. In their minds, everyone admired how beautiful the young lady interviewing Rayyern was.

Jannart, for the umpteenth time, looked up at the cameras broadcasting them, adjusted the mic stand beside her, and said: "As you already know, we are now opening our phone lines for callers to share their opinions and ask questions. Here is our phone number..."

As she finished reciting the numbers, she turned on a telephone-like device placed in front of them on an exquisite table. True to form, as soon as the line opened, calls began pouring in—mostly from prominent people.

She let out a soft breath, adjusted her seating, and glanced at the phone as another call came in right before she set it down. Jannart picked up the call, pressed a button, and put the phone on hands-free. With her melodious voice, she said: "Assalamu Alaikum."

The caller responded from the other end with an authoritative, distinguished voice. Hearing that, she said: "Welcome to the 'Guest of the Week' program."

"Hello, welcome," the other party replied respectfully. Jannart closed her eyes momentarily and said: "May we know who is on the line?"

"My name is Alhaji Abubakar Ginsau, Senior Special Assistant (S.A.) on Protocol to the Governor. I called to congratulate our special guest, Dr. Rayyern Bashir Muhammad Mai-nasara, regarding the very useful statements he made. Insha Allah, these words will reach the appropriate ears. We also express our profound gratitude for the advice he shared."

Jannart nodded, stealing a glance at Dr. Rayyern, who had turned his face away as if he hadn't heard himself being praised. "Arrogance is a crown of thorns," she thought to herself. Out loud, however, she said: "Well, Mr. S.A. Protocol, we thank you very much, and our guest the Doctor thanks you as well."

With that, the S.A.'s call disconnected, and another call came in.

In panic, Dr. Lukman stood up, put his hand to his head, and said with a heart full of frustration: "Truly, this boy has surpassed all my expectations. They don't call him 'Mai-nasara' (The Successful One) for nothing, seeing as he hits the nail right on the head. From his speech, even the S.A. himself called and testified that the message will go all the way to the governor! What kind of lucky, wretched brat is this?!"

With intense fury and hatred, Alhaji Idi Saleh Dakata exhaled heavily and said: "He's even worse than a brat, this boy you're looking at, Dr. Lukman. He is a cunning rascal digging beneath us. Soon, if we don't rise up, he will cut off every single branch we have. He is wreaking major havoc without a care in the world. Indeed, he has deeply rooted himself. He uses these heart-touching words to deceive people, acting like a politician begging for a political seat. Hmm! I will definitely deal with this boy; I will get rid of him just like I got rid of those who were far tougher in the past."

Alhaji Idi Sale Dakata finished speaking, releasing a hot breath of frustration. Meanwhile, Alhaji Abdu Tababa said: "Truly, removing him from the face of the earth is the best option; otherwise, he will drag all of us out of our homes into the scorching sun."

"That will not happen," Alhaji Idi Sale said, standing up.

Over at Rayyern's house, Abba and the others had still not moved away from the TV. They remained seated, each of them beaming with joy over the success Rayyern was achieving.

Similarly, at Barrister Kabir's house, he was still glued to his TV. Just as the broadcast continued, Aunty Dijat emerged from the bedroom. She sat next to her husband and began trying to prepare coffee for him.

Barrister Kabir looked at her and said in a soothing voice: "Dijat, look at the TV and see Jannart and that young man sitting beside her."

She quickly handed him the cup, fixed her eyes on the screen, and said: "Masha Allah." He took a sip of the coffee and asked: "They make a good pair, right?"

Aunty Dijat widened her eyes as she looked at the TV, right at the moment the camera zoomed in close on Jannart and Rayyern's faces. "Masha Allah, Father of Hafeez, they are truly a match made in heaven. Beauty upon beauty!"

Barrister Kabir smiled, adjusted his seat, and said briefly: "He is the husband I chose for her, and he is the one she will marry, but without her knowing it yet." He said this as he accepted the coffee prepared for him.

Aunty Dijat widened her eyes in extreme shock mixed with pure joy and said: "Allahu Akbar! Truly, the greatness of God's power and wisdom is immense. Masha Allah, Jannart has truly found a brilliant, courageous man of virtue. Indeed, you have fulfilled your role as an exemplary father. We will certainly have a massive wedding—when is the wedding?"

The father smiled, shook his head gently, and said softly: "No, I won't tell you right now. It's a secret."

Meanwhile back at the TV station, that was the 15th call Jannart had taken. After the 15th call, she officially cut the lines, stood up, and looked at the lined-up cameras in front of them.

"Well, dear viewers, all good things must come to an end, as I see time is running out on us. Therefore, this brings us to the end of our program, 'Guest of the Week.' Next week, by God's grace, we shall bring you another special guest."

She turned slightly to look at Rayyern sitting beside her and said with her usual bright smile: "Doctor, please say goodbye to our viewers and listeners."

"Assalamu Alaikum," Dr. Rayyern Bashir Muhammad Mai-nasara said softly, knowing that by now all his family members were watching him.

Jannart turned to face the camera and said: "Well, viewers, this concludes today's episode with our distinguished guest..." She finished the sentence by turning to look at Dr. Rayyern.

He exhaled slightly and said: "Rayyern Bashir Muhammad Mai-nasara."

Adjusting her posture, she said: "And I am the one who planned and presented it, JANNART IDI SALE DAKATA. We hope to meet again next week, God willing. Rest well."

Cut! The production crew cut the feed and turned off their cameras.

At that exact moment in Rayyern's house, Abba's heart skipped a beat upon hearing the name of the girl echo in his ears. "Jannart Idi Sale Dakata!!" Abba repeated the name inwardly, quickly lifting his head to look at Mamy, who was also staring at him with extreme shock written all over her face.

Together, they turned their gaze back to the TV. "If the name the girl spoke is her real name, then truly, this is the exact girl Barrister Kabir came to talk to us about," Abba thought to himself, his face filled with extreme astonishment and awe at how things turned out.

Remembering something else, he suddenly broke into a broad smile filled with immense joy and victory. He now believed more than ever that distance had been bridged.

Back at the TV station, Dr. Rayyern sprang to his feet, prompting the Managing Director (MD), assistant managing directors, and top executives of the station to rush directly toward Rayyern, extending their hands one by one to greet him respectfully.

With joy making it impossible to close his mouth, the MD said: "Thank you very much, Dr. Rayyern. May Almighty God elevate you even further. On behalf of myself and the staff of this station, we thank you for taking the time to visit. Truly, your presence has further elevated the prestige of our station."

Dr. Rayyern offered the MD a slight smile. The MD then ordered a special plaque/gift to be presented to Dr. Rayyern as a token of their appreciation.

Salman, Aysha Lawal, and Aunty Fauziya D. Sulaiman stood nearby, waving at Jannart in appreciation. Their faces beamed with joy over the massive success Jannart had achieved. She had set a record unprecedented in the history of any television station in Nigeria by bringing in a brilliant, elusive businessman and doctor whom everyone had been dying to see, finally revealing his face to the world.

Jannart smiled back at them and walked over to Salman, who outwardly looked extremely happy. Inwardly, however, his heart ached because seeing Jannart and Dr. Rayyern sitting side-by-side made him realize how well-matched they were—they shone like twin stars. He finally confirmed to himself that Jannart Dakata was completely out of his league; Jannart belonged to high society. Harboring romantic thoughts about her was sheer audacity because he knew he didn't rank at that level.

Feeling somewhat subdued, he turned and joined the others following the MD as they escorted Dr. Rayyern to his car. Among the entourage was Asiya, who felt like bursting into tears or screaming out of frustration, if only because she didn't even get a single glance from Dr. Rayyern.

Jannart walked straight back to her office, unbothered by the entourage. Escorting him wasn't her priority; besides, she was amazed at how the office staff treated him with such reverence, confirming that despite the struggle she went through to find him, he truly was a very important person.

She smirked as she took her seat, feeling a tremendous sense of relief, as if a spear had been pulled out of her chest. "Alhamdulillah, Ya Allah! You made everything easy for me. Now I won't lose my job, and I have no more fears. Thanks for everything, Allah," she said out loud with profound happiness.

Out in the compound, the MD and others escorted Dr. Rayyern right up to his car after presenting him with the award of honor. Since Baba Hadi had already opened the car door before they arrived, Rayyern slipped inside without wasting any time. As he closed the door, the MD and staff continued thanking him and wishing him a safe journey.

Calmly, Baba Hadi drove the car out of the TV station premises.

Asiya wore a scowl as if she wanted to swallow her own heart from bitterness. She deeply regretted that day because she didn't get even a single glance from Dr. Rayyern; the man didn't even know she existed. Glancing at herself, she hissed inwardly: "How could he even look at me when that witch is in the world? I hate you, wallahi, Jannart. I even hate seeing your face because your presence in this office has made life unbearable for me. You just come and steal the spotlight simply because you're pretty, mcheewww!"

She finished her rant with a heavy hiss, turned around, and walked back inside the office, as everyone else was still outside.

Inside the office, the MD personally walked into Jannart's office, opened his arms, and started applauding. Seeing this, the rest of the staff joined in, clapping for her.

With deep admiration and praise for her hard work, the MD said: "Congratulations, Jannart! You have truly proven yourself to be a brilliant journalist. I commend your dedication. Having someone like you in journalism is wonderful. Today, because of you, our station has risen to greater heights. You completely surprised us, and we must honor you with a special award."

"Indeed, Jannart, you have truly tried. You are a brilliant woman with passion and love for her work. Congratulations!" added Aunty Fauziya D. Sulaiman.

Jannart smiled, showing her white teeth, and said happily: "Congratulations to all my colleagues, because this success is the result of your support and encouragement—especially Salman. Thank you so much, Salman."

They all smiled happily, while Salman lowered his head, smiling quietly. Asiya, standing nearby, felt like she was going crazy from the tightness of grief and bitterness filling her heart.

They continued chatting happily, every face beaming with joy—except Asiya's, whose eyes welled up with frustrated tears. The MD personally ordered delicious food and drinks, and they held a mini-party in the VIP lounge to specially celebrate Jannart's milestone.

After the party, Jannart grabbed her handbag and headed straight home with a joyful heart.

As for Dr. Rayyern Bashir Muhammad Mai-nasara, he drove straight home from the TV station. As they reached the gate, Baba Hadi honked, and Baba Mauđo quickly rushed to open it. Baba Hadi drove inside and parked neatly.

Rayyern stepped out of the car calmly, walked over to Baba Mauđo, and bowed slightly in greeting. Baba Mauđo smiled and offered a warm welcome before Rayyern headed straight into the grand lounge where Mamy, Abba, and Ramadan were seated.

His entry prompted everyone to look up. Riyyam-nsra ran over excitedly, hugged him, and said: "Hamma Rayyern, you are truly amazing! You answered every single question asked so brilliantly."

Rayyern gave a slight nod, feeling mentally exhausted. He walked further into the lounge and greeted Abba and Mamy. "Welcome back, Rayyern," Mamy replied, while Abba nodded in acknowledgment.

"Hamma Rayyern, congratulations," Ramadan whispered with a suppressed laugh, knowing how much his older brother hated talking too much, yet today circumstances forced him to speak at length. Rayyern simply nodded in response without sitting down, heading straight to his private wing.

He took a bath, performed ablution for the Maghrib prayer, and dressed in comfortable, lightweight clothes before joining the family on their way to the mosque. True to form, they didn't return from the mosque until after performing the Isha prayer.

Upon returning home, they found Mamy had prepared a sumptuous dinner, and everyone gathered around the dining table. Tonight, Riyyam-nsra personally took over serving duties from Mamy, dishing out food for everyone except Abba (whose plate Mamy prepared) and personally mixing tea for Hamma Rayyern.

After everyone settled down to eat, Abba raised his head, looked at Rayyern with deep appreciation and pride, and said: "Truly, the interview with you today was fascinating and meaningful, and the advice you gave was wonderful. I really commend you..." He paused briefly, looked at him, and continued—

Summary

In this chapter, Dr. Rayyern Bashir Muhammad Mai-nasara successfully concludes his highly anticipated television interview hosted by Jannart Idi Sale Dakata. Throughout the session, Rayyern articulates his noble vision for Mai-nasara Hospital—emphasizing community welfare, accessibility for the underprivileged through a dedicated foundation, and uncompromised medical standards. His articulate and confident demeanor captivates viewers, including government officials like the Governor's S.A. on Protocol, who calls in live to praise him.

While the interview brings immense professional triumph and recognition to Jannart and her television station, it sparks intense jealousy and anger in Asiya (who envies Jannart's spotlight and attraction to Rayyern) and deep alarm in Dr. Lukman and Alhaji Idi Sale Dakata, who view Rayyern as a dangerous threat to their illicit schemes and vow to eliminate him. Meanwhile, back at Rayyern's home, his family watches proudly. The episode culminates in a shocking revelation for Abba when he hears Jannart's full name ("Jannart Idi Sale Dakata") announced on air, connecting her to the matrimonial arrangements previously discussed by Barrister Kabir.

Description

  • Setting: A mix of the live television broadcast studio (where the interview wraps up and staff celebrate), the homes of the characters (Rayyern’s family home, Barrister Kabir's house, and the antagonists plotting in frustration), and the office spaces where contrasting emotional reactions unfold.
  • Key Characters Involved:
    • Dr. Rayyern Bashir Muhammad Mai-nasara: Composed, articulate, and principled; successfully completes the broadcast and maintains his stoic dignity.
    • Jannart Idi Sale Dakata: Professional, brilliant, and radiant journalist who successfully anchors the historic interview and earns widespread praise.
    • Asiya: Envious, bitter colleague consumed by jealousy over Jannart's success and failure to catch Rayyern's eye.
    • Dr. Lukman & Alhaji Idi Sale Dakata: Antagonists threatened by Rayyern's rising influence, plotting malicious counteractions.
    • Abba & Mamy (Rayyern's parents) / Barrister Kabir: Family members and key decision-makers reacting to the broadcast, with Abba discovering a crucial link regarding Jannart's identity.

Analytics

  • Character Arc Progression: Jannart cements her status as an elite journalist, breaking television records and earning the respect of her station's management. Rayyern solidifies his public reputation as a compassionate and visionary medical professional. Conversely, the antagonists (Alhaji Idi Sale and Dr. Lukman) descend further into desperation and malice, accelerating the impending conflict.
  • Dramatic Irony & Foreshadowing: The revelation of Jannart's full surname on live television bridges two previously isolated narrative threads—Rayyern's family and Barrister Kabir's secret marriage plans for Jannart—setting the stage for an explosive intersection of family ties and hidden agendas.
  • Pacing & Tone: The narrative effectively contrasts high-stakes professional triumph and domestic warmth with underlying currents of professional jealousy, malice, and impending danger.

Comments

  • Thematic Contrast: The chapter brilliantly juxtaposes genuine altruism and professional excellence (represented by Rayyern and Jannart) against petty envy (Asiya), professional insecurity (Dr. Lukman), and malicious corruption (Alhaji Idi Sale).
  • Narrative Setup: The integration of the live call-in segment not only validates Rayyern's impact on a societal scale but also acts as a narrative catalyst that draws the attention of high-ranking government figures and the antagonists alike.

Conclusions

This chapter serves a pivotal structural purpose in the story by successfully culminating the high-stakes television interview while organically setting up multiple future conflicts and resolutions. By intertwining public acclaim, professional recognition, villainous conspiracies, and the subtle convergence of the protagonists' families through Jannart's full identity, the narrative transitions smoothly from individual character achievements into a broader, interconnected plotline.
